Sugar Rush Speedway looks to have been inspired by elements of Nintendo/Namco’s Mario Kart Arcade cabinets and Midway driving games from the 90s (the control panel buttons look like they are from a Crusin’ machine):įor a comparison, you can easily catch a few similarities between SRS and MKGP: I really have to hand it to the people who did this work on WRI as they truly did their research on the games that are out there to grab inspiration for the designs of the games for the film, something I will get into further below. Here are two clips showcasing the fantasy arcade titles that play a big role in the new movie: Sugar Rush Speedway and Hero’s Duty. Quite a bit of talk came up about some of the licensed characters that have shown up in the trailers but I want to cover a little bit about the games. When I first saw the Call of Duty/Halo type game in the first trailers, I thought it was going to involve a console game of some kind but in reality that is an arcade game as well. Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph has been given quite a bit of a marketing push lately ( we have been discussing it since the first trailer came along) and the best part for arcade fans like ourselves is the ad campaign has not been shy to push arcades and arcade games as a part of it.
